Broadgate Art 2013

The Mechanics Institute II by William Tillyer

It’s been a busy year for our art collection – here’s a roundup of all the action.

In May we were delighted to bring new work Passage by Yuko Shiraishi to 201 Bishopsgate and in November we introduced Over There by Jennifer Durrant to the lower lobby of 155 Bishopsgate.

In early 2013 we introduced our gallery space at The Broadgate Tower, where our inaugural exhibition, Found Colours, was installed by Mark Croxford between April and October.

In October we installed an exhibition of works, Everything I might need to know, by Brigitte Williams in the first and second floor lobby areas of The Broadgate Tower. You can view this until April 2014.

This year we have also enjoyed sharing our collection with members of our local community and taking part in creative projects such as Broadgate Stories 2013 with Space Studios, work with young carers from Hackney in association with arts charity Create, Sculpture in the City, Archikids and Open City.

Going forward into 2014, we are looking forward to continuing our work with local partners and community projects. We plan to install another piece of sculpture on site and will continue to restore and revitalise our artworks. One of our first jobs will be to welcome back our monumental Tillyer painting The Mechanics Institute II from Middlesborough Institute of Modern Art, where it is currently on loan to an important retrospective exhibition of works by the artist titled Against Nature.
