Almost a month since the start of Olympic action, the eyes of the world
continue to be on London as the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic
Games takes place on Wednesday 29 August in the Olympic Stadium.
If you have missed out on tickets, can’t take the time off work, need somewhere to entertain the kids before their return to school or simply want to catch the action in the square mile, there are 3 big screens at Broadgate in each of our unique pedestrianised piazzas. Whilst watching the Paralympics for free, you can also make the most of our many bars, restaurants and shops before, during or after the screenings!
Entitled ‘Enlightenment’, Co-Artistic Directors Jenny Sealey and Bradley Hemmings promise the Opening Ceremony will be a spectacular celebration of the inspirational spirit of the Paralympic Games that challenges perceptions of human possibility.
Award-winning film director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) heads the team behind The London 2012 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony which will include more than 3,000 adult volunteers, a children volunteer cast of over 100, and 100-plus professionals.
The Ceremony will showcase the excellence of deaf and disabled artists and will open with a fly past by ‘Aerobility’, a British charity that trains disabled people to become pilots. In addition, we can look forward to incredible acrobatic performances on a 35 metre-high rig above the stadium floor and the parade of all 162 competing nations (4,000 athletes in total). Finally, the highly anticipated entrance of the Paralympic Flame will ignite the Cauldron and signal the start of the Games.
Things have not felt quite the same here at Broadgate since the Olympics finished, so we are hugely looking forward to what is anticipated as being the biggest Paraplympic games in history!
We hope to see you in the square mile soon…*Subject to weather.
