Ceramic Sculpture

Characteristically Catalan, this hand painted, tiled sculpture brings a splash of colour to this corner of the City. Soaring skywards, the concave design rises several stories. Water-like tones of blue reflect the ebb and flow of people and traffic in the nearby streets and, at the base, tiles in red, black and white resemble stones, echoing the buildings of Broadgate itself.

Born to a distinguished Spanish family of ceramicists, Artigas began work as Joan Miró’s assistant before spending time in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he met Alberto Giacometti, Georges Braque and Marc Chagall. He collaborated with Miró on several prestigious public commissions before establishing his own studio in Barcelona, where he continues to concentrate on ceramic sculptures.
