Focus on Vasco Lipovac

Each month we will be taking a closer look at one of our Broadgate artists; this month is the turn of Vasko Lipovac, the Croatian artist who created Cyclus, a new temporary piece to be located in Exchange Square on 7 July, then in the reception lobby of 201 Bishopsgate until the start of September.

Our Summer of Sport season has kicked off in style with the World Cup, but there's still a lot to play for. Our big outdoor screen in Exchange Square will be with us until 5 September featuring the Tour de France, the Commonwealth Games and the Indian Cricket Tour of England – see the full listings here.

To celebrate the Tour de France finishing its third UK stage in London on 7 July we are delighted to host Cyclus by Vasko Lipovac through July to the start of September. Irresistible, this monumental work describes the epic contest of a road race, at times entertaining and relaxing, whilst at others difficult and traumatic. The brightly coloured riders are captured in both single units and in groups, movement is created and the viewer is introduced to the notion of time and the desire for victory. Though his figures are stylised, Lipovac conveys the intensity and emotion of this huge endeavour, providing great inspiration and motivation alongside gentle humour and delight.

Vasko Lipovac was heavily influenced by Croatia's rich culture, modelling imaginative figures with various materials. He received numerous awards for sculpture, illustrations and public monuments, as well as a lifetime achievement award. Lipovac held his first public exhibition in York in 1959 and now his sons, Mario and Ranko, are delighted to bring his work back to England once more.

Cyclus is available to view in Exchange Square on 7 July before moving to the ground floor foyer of 201 Bishopsgate. Supported by us, Broadgate City of London, this exhibition of Cyclus has also been made possible by the generous sponsorship of the following partners: Republic of Croatia Ministry of Culture; Republic of Croatia Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs; City of Split; City of Zagreb; Slobodna Dalmacija and The Generali Group.

With almost 1,500 cycle spaces on site and our regular Bike Station, cycling to Broadgate couldn't be easier. We’d love to see you on 7 July for the special outdoor viewing of Cyclus. Surrounded by cafes, restaurants and bars, and with all the Tour de France action on the big screen, why not make a day of it and cheer on your cycling heroes.
