Don’t miss the online art exhibition Leave Home, Save Lives

From 28th January 2021, a landmark online exhibition called Leave Home, Save Lives will present the inspirational stories of seven front-line workers from refugee backgrounds and their journeys to the UK exploring both their lives and their roles.

From Kemi, 37, a mother-of-four who came to the UK six years ago, fleeing domestic violence in Nigeria and who now works as a volunteer with women from migrant backgrounds to Pinar, 25, who came to the UK from Turkey in 2019 and now assists frontline care staff with PPE, the exhibition is an unmissable reminder of all the people who have undertaken vital roles in the fight against the pandemic.

This moving and uplifting exhibition is a collaboration between leading refugee employment charity Breaking Barriers and the world-renowned photographer Rankin and also features a covid tester, a community public health nurse, GP surgery administrator and care home assistant from countries around the world.

Rankin has uniquely captured the personalities of the refugees, some of whom have been supported by Breaking Barriers, representing them as important contributors to communities across London. The photographs are accompanied by interviews conducted by Zozan Yasar, who was part of the Refugee Journalism Project.
