Lane was born in Illinois in 1955 and moved to the UK in 1975 to study with Patrick Reyntiens, an artist working in stained glass. Lane remained in the UK to study painting at the Byam Shaw School of Art between 1975 and 1977 before joining a painting course at the Central School of Art in London in 1980.
His work is now featured in private and public collections worldwide. A few notable installations include Balustrade in London’s V&A, Borealis for the General Motors Renaissance Center in Detroit (which is believed to be the largest glass sculpture in existence) and Stairway for the Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood Sculpture Park.
