This winter, we wanted to find a way to celebrate our local community, share some seasonal spirit – even if it looks a little bit different to what we’re all used to – and create a festive celebration near Liverpool Street. After all, just because it’s 2020 doesn’t mean we can't enjoy some Christmas lights in the middle of the city.
With this in mind, we’re inviting you to The Giving Tree in Finsbury Avenue Square from 23 November to help raise funds for the amazing St Hilda’s East. The community centre has brought much-needed youth services, advice and projects to parents, children, older people to Tower Hamlets for the past 130 years – and now, more than ever, they need your help. If you cannot make it to the tree, click here to donate.
Our 40ft Christmas Giving Tree is enveloped in warm white lights to bring some cheer to the winter – but that’s not all. Every seven minutes the tree will display a rainbow-coloured light show for 60 seconds (a fitting tribute to the NHS rainbows that have defined 2020) and also, crucially, there will be a contactless donation point so you can donate to St Hilda’s East.
Perfect for both children and socially distanced friends, celebrate Christmas, our local community and raise a glass of something mulled outdoors at The Giving Tree in Finsbury Avenue Square.
About St Hilda’s East
St Hilda’s East was founded by former pupils of Cheltenham Ladies College and has an active link with the College and its Guild to this day. St Hilda’s East has changed immensely since being established in 1889 as a settlement by the Guild of Cheltenham Ladies’ College. The pioneering Guild members who started our history over a century ago might not recognise the buildings now, and they would certainly be surprised by many of the changes to the surrounding area. But they would still recognise the aims of St Hilda’s East today: to combat deprivation and social exclusion through providing education and recreational provision along with social care — activities that enable and empower individuals.
