Discover more about the tour from art curator, Rosie Glenn

Nick Hornby and Sinta Tantra have a unique way of working together; Nick is predominantly a sculptor and Sinta is mainly a painter. However, both share a fascination of innovative technology and handcrafts plus a similar approach to shape and a love of art historical references. It is this shared ground that forms the basis for their collaborative artworks – Tantra’s painted elements on Hornby’s sculptures and Hornby’s 3D re-imaginings of Tantra’s painted works.

201 Bishopsgate

Showcasing a pair of large-scale collaborative sculptures set alongside an individual work by Nick plus two of Sinta’s solo paintings, the viewer starts to gain a sense of how the two artists work as individuals and also how they combine their talents to create arresting and compelling artworks.

Broadgate Tower

Next door, on level one of the Broadgate Tower see a sequence of new sketches and drawings developed by Hornby Tantra this year. Visit level two to view a series of art proposals outlining how the artists operate within a public arena including Tantra’s 2017 Folkestone Triennial painted building and Hornby’s 2018 recent Harlow sculptural commission, complete with drawings and models.

Exchange House

Just across the road, the walkways around Exchange House provide the perfect location for a 360-degree view of Hornby Tantra’s monumental horse-like artwork. Take a closer look as you walk around to notice how each facet of the sculpture changes to present altogether different views of celebrated pieces of sculpture by past masters of the genre.

Exchange Square

The north-east corner is hosting a solo sculpture by Nick Hornby. Carved in marble, this exquisite bust commands the surrounding space, creating dramatic silhouettes of master sculptures against the facade of Liverpool Street Station. Take a closer look at Hornby’s white marble bust as yet uncovered in Tantra’s coloured shapes. Imagine Tantra’s paintings and colours wrapped around the marble and you start to sense the ways in which the artists combine their creativity.

Finsbury Avenue Square

Broadgate’s cubes are displaying schematic designs by Hornby Tantra for new collaborative sculptures yet to be realized. Conceived as one piece, the artwork flows from surface to surface, wrapping around the cubes' edges in an almost cinema-like panorama.
