The Sessions: mental health workshops

Following on from our successful series with Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest, The Sessions at The Space | 3FA are hosting three essential lunchtime workshops about mental health in the workplace with experts from the charity.

Covering everything from managing mental health issues to maintaining wellbeing, the workshops are free to occupiers at Broadgate. Book your spot and discover a new way of thinking and tackling mental health issues in 2020.

An excellent course for line managers which empowers them with the confidence to deal with employee mental health and wellbeing in a forthright, compassionate and effective manner. 

The aims and objectives of the session 
Managers who have participated in this bespoke training will have:

  • Improved awareness of mental health at work and how work can affect staff
  • An understanding of creating mentally healthy workplaces
  • Increased awareness of the signs of mental ill-health and how to broach the issue and explore support measures
  • Ability to support staff return to work from a period of absence due to mental ill health
  • Increased confidence in supporting colleagues experiencing a mental health problem
  • Increased confidence in managing their own mental health

The training covers:

  • Mental health, and recognising the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems, including stress, anxiety and depression
  • How to have conversations with employees about their mental health
  • Managing disclosure
  • Supporting an employee’s return to work after  a period of absence due to mental ill health
  • Designing reasonable adjustments
  • The introduction of the Wellness Action Plan as a practical tool to structure conversations about mental health

Our mental health awareness course can offer greater understanding of mental health issues and how to support others. Participants will discuss the language used to talk about mental health and the negative connotations which can often be attached to this, as well as how to spot the signs and symptoms in other people. At the end of this course participants should have increased confidence in how to stay mentally healthy and how to challenge stigma surrounding mental health.

The aims and objectives of the session
Participants who take part in Mental Health Awareness session will:

  • Have a better understanding of mental health, and the signs and symptoms of common and severe mental health conditions
  • Can skillfully intervene with others when symptoms of mental health problems manifest themselves or when a crisis emerges
  • Are able to challenge stigma and discrimination in the workplace
  • Take away tools to improve their own mental health

The training can cover a range of topics relating to mental health, including:
An overview of stress, anxiety, depression and other common mental health problems

  • Signs and symptoms associated with each mental health diagnosis 
  • Understanding lived experience of poor mental health
  • Top tips for recognising and managing risk 
  • Myths and misinformation about mental health
  • Supporting a colleague or friend experiencing a mental health problem
  • Appropriate boundaries in supporting someone with mental health difficulties 
  • Raising awareness of mental health and reducing stigma
  • Recognising our own mental health challenges
  • How to stay mentally healthy at work
  • Tips for reducing stress and staying well
  • Five ways to wellbeing

Tuesday 18th February, 12.30-1.30pm
Anxiety in the workplace
Mind in the City, Hackney and Waltham Forest at The Space | 3FA

This hour-long session will give tips on how to manage anxiety in the workplace. Participants will have an increased understanding about mental health and wellbeing in the workplace and common mental health problems. This session covers the physical and emotional impact of anxiety and how it can affect work, and provides ways to best keep anxiety to a manageable level.
 
The aims and objectives of the course
Participants who attend this course will have:

  • A wider understanding of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
  • Improved knowledge of common mental health problems, including stress, anxiety and depression
  • Ways to manage anxiety and reduce its impact in the workplace

This hour-long training session on managing stress includes:

  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • What is anxiety?
  • Ways to manage anxiety levels at work
  • How to prevent yourself from getting anxious
  • How to support a colleague who is experiencing anxiety or mental ill health
  • How to manage your everyday wellbeing
