Summer is coming which means it’s time to soak up some rays – whether you’re making the most of Bank Holiday season, grabbing a coffee and lunch or heading out for post-work drinks and dinner with friends or your team – we’ve answered all your burning questions...
Q. Where should I go for a morning coffee near Liverpool Street?
A. Grind at Broadgate Circle
Broadgate is a temple to the best flat whites in town (see Beany Green and The Department of Coffee and Social Affairs on Bishopsgate) and its newest arrival is Grind, one of east London’s most innovative and loved coffee brands. Grind ensure their house flavour (made up the road in their Shoreditch roastery) is always consistent working with sustainable farmers and importers who pay above the Fairtrade rate. Grab a table outside and soak up the sun.
What to order at Grind? Their breakfast menu has coffee from £2.50 for an espresso with matcha lattes from £3.30. We also really recommend the cold-pressed juices (kale, spinach, celery, romaine, cucumber, apple, lemon for £4.25) and a killer house-cured beetroot salmon, eggs on toast (£10). They’ve also got food for the rest of the day covered and a smashing cocktail menu for later.

Q. Where can I go for an outdoor brunch near Liverpool Street?
A. Beany Green at Broadgate Circle
Beany Green brings Aussie sunshine to Liverpool Street all year round and with a huge (heated if necessary) outdoor terrace, it's the perfect spot for weekday morning meetings or leisurely bottomless brunches with free-flowing Prosecco and Mimosas (10am Monday-Saturday and from noon on Sundays).
What to order at Beany Green? Beany Green were serving smashed avo when other morning spots were just dreaming about it – so try their version (from £8.50) on charcoal toast with aleppo and add house labne, poached eggs or bacon or the banana bread sandwich with mascarpone, fresh berries and almonds (£9.80).

Q. Where’s a nice place sit at lunchtime near Liverpool Street?
A. Broadgate Circle, Finsbury Avenue Square and Exchange Square
If you’re working in central London and want to get some sun on your lunchbreak then Broadgate has you covered. With a whole of host of grab-and-go lunch spots (Island Poké's healthy salad bowls, Hop Vietnamese noodles and banh mi, Street Dot’s ever-changing line-up of pop-up vans plus Eat, Pret, Itsu, Wasabi and Pod) and huge open spaces filled with welcoming sun spots and comfy chairs (plus ping-pong tables), this is the perfect place to catch some much-needed downtime and Vitamin D.
The summer also sees live music pop up at Broadgate Circle on Thursday evenings while the outdoor big screen plays home to sport and movies (watch this space for more info coming soon).

Q. Where’s a good place for a lunch meeting where we can sit outside?
With a welcoming team who know how to mix up a great Negroni and a menu of Italian classics paired and extensive wine menu, Piccolino’s alfresco terrace is the inspired spot for work meetings or catch-ups.
What to order?
All of the pastas are incredible (our heart lies with spaghetti alle vongole with fresh palourde clams, white wine, vine ripened cherry tomatoes, chilli and garlic, £15.75) but their antipasti menu is also a delight with bruschette miste recommended (classic tomato and basil, DOP Parma ham, buffalo ricotta, honey and walnuts, king prawns, chilli and lemon for £17.50).

From craft G&Ts to delicious cocktails (virgin or otherwise) to beer and wine, Broadgate Circle is a vibrant and welcoming spot to enjoy summer in the city with some of the most innovative and fun cocktail bars/restaurants in town. With live music on Thursday evenings, you can chat, order drinks and grab something to eat while watching the sun go down.
What to order? Mrs Fogg’s does the perfect mix of gin cocktails and small plates (roasted cauliflower, broccoli and padron poppers for £5 are addictive) while The Botanist has classic bar snacks galore including fish fingers, crispy squid and tacos. Grind meanwhile do an Espresso Martini to end all other imposters (£9).

A. Yauatcha City, Gaucho, Franco Manca, Shoryu Ramen and Comptoir Libanais
Whatever you’re in the mood for then it’s time to explore the huge array of restaurants round the corner from Liverpool Street. Yauatcha City’s gorgeous terrace is the place to enjoy the sunshine while trying their incredible cocktails, wine and sake alongside danity dim sum that are out of this world. Meanwhile, Gaucho is the spot for a really good steak and a red wine to match – their outdoor space is a welcome escape from the city.
For more laid-back eating, head to Franco Manca for great sourdough and an eclectic choice of toppings (Cornish home-cured ham, mozzarella, buffalo ricotta and wild mushrooms anyone?). Alternatively, grab the best ramen and BBQ pork buns in town from Shoryu Ramen or share a mezze of salad, grilled mains and dips with your friends at Comptoir.
