BROADGATE HEROES - DIEGO TORO PAREJA

We want to introduce you to some of the people that are keeping Broadgate going. They are working tirelessly in many roles to ensure that everything is as safe as possible during this time. These are our heroes and over the next few weeks, we will be sharing their stories.

DIEGO TORO PAREJA
Operations supervisor - Bywaters

What you do?

i am a Waste and Recycling Team Supervisor

How has your job role has changed since?

Shifts changed to Mondays and Thursday only, and for a shorter period of time as there was less waste to collect.

Managed a smaller team throughout due to furloughed staff

Security and safety methods at work have changed like using additional PPE and communicating with my team from a distance

Has the pandemic affected your personal life?

I have not been sleeping well due to overthinking and worrying about family and friends

As both myself and my wife were deemed key workers during the pandemic, we had to make the decision who would stay home to look after our son’s, which caused some anxiety.

Positive things, I have spent more time with family at home and more time for exercise like bike rides.

Why you feel your role is important/why are you still coming to work/remaining open?

Because even during the pandemic, waste will be generated and I feel it is still important to clear and recycle as much as possible.

Because the other supervisor in our team was deemed hi-risk, I did not want him to come in whilst the pandemic went on.

Anything else you want to add?

I want to thank Broadgate for how they handled the impossible situation, like allowing us to rotate staff, to not be working too close together and for giving us the freedom to do our jobs and be safe.
