East London has some of the highest rates of child poverty in the UK so we’re asking you to donate to the ELBA Toy Appeal. The toys really do make a difference for the children and families who receive them.
For many children, this will be the only gift they receive at Christmas. This includes families that are fleeing domestic violence, living in emergency temporary accommodation, refugees and children with disabilities and additional needs.
The fact that a stranger has spared a thought for them can mean the world. So please do order a gift online below (there will also be collections at Broadgate) and share with your friends and colleagues.
The John Lewis gift list details for Broadgate are as follows:
Gift list number: 775334
Buy a gift here: https://www.johnlewisgiftlist.com/giftint/JSPs/GiftList/BuyGifts/GuestFindAList.jsp
People will be able to buy gifts from the list until the end of November. Any gifts purchased after this time will be converted to vouchers and will also be spent on toys so every purchase counts. For any toys collected in the office, delivery of these will have to be organised between 9th December and 13th December.
Toys aimed at children from newborn to 16 years are needed. Past appeals have identified that gifts for the very young (0-12 months) and older teenagers (14-16 years) are in short supply. Please bear in mind that some children might have disabilities, so colourful toys for those with hearing problems and noisy ones for those with visual impairments are always welcome.
Every year ELBA is overwhelmed by the generosity of Broadgate companies and their employees. Last year saw almost 10,000 toys donated to children in need in east London and Islington. However, the sad truth is that there are more children than this living in poverty. This year is ELBA’s 30th birthday so it would be great to beat this total to support even more children and give them a happy Christmas. See below for the difference you could make:
St Hilda's East Women's Project
"None of the children from the centre would receive presents if it wasn't for the ELBA Toy Appeal. It was amazing to see the children's faces light up when they received their toys; I can honestly say that they all loved them!"
Oliver Thomas Children’s Centre
"The ELBA Toy Appeal enabled us to donate toys to the families most in need and provide a bit of Christmas magic for their children. As the toys provided covered a wide age range, we were able to provide gifts for the whole family and not just the youngest children therefore supporting the family as a whole at Christmas."
